Merrimack College forward Caelan Fitzpatrick has been named the Hockey East Player of the Week, marking the first time he has received this honor. The announcement was made by the conference on Monday.
Fitzpatrick, a sophomore from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, played a key role in Merrimack’s recent games against Vermont. He contributed to every goal in their 5-2 victory by scoring twice and assisting three times. He also scored again in the following game, bringing his total to six points over the weekend.
During February, Fitzpatrick recorded points in six out of seven games for Merrimack and led the team with 12 points—seven goals and five assists—during that span. For the season, he ranks third on the team in goals with 12 and fourth in overall points with 25, most of which have come during the second half of the season.
The Warriors are scheduled to play their final regular season game against UMass Lowell Riverhawks at Lawler Arena on Thursday, March 6. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
“Fitzpatrick, a sophomore from Moose Jaw, SK, had an outstanding weekend against Vermont, factoring into every goal in their 5-2 win, finding the net twice and adding three assists, before scoring again the next night, giving him six points in total.”
