Merrimack College freshman Gab Qureshi has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Student Athlete of the Week, according to an announcement from the conference on Wednesday.
Qureshi has made a strong start in his first collegiate season. He won the 400 meter event at both the Suffolk Icebreaker with a time of 48.75 seconds and the Harvard Invitational with a time of 48.40 seconds. At the MIT Gordon Kelly Invitational, he claimed victories in both the 600 meter (1:20.77) and as part of the 4×400 relay team (3:24.22).
In addition to these wins, Qureshi earned three more podium finishes. He took second place in the 4×400 relay at both the Suffolk Invitational (3:21.66) and Harvard Invitational (3:22.05), and finished third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.05 seconds.
Qureshi and his teammates are preparing for the MAAC Indoor Conference Championships, which will take place on Saturday and Sunday at the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory in New York. The event will be broadcast live on ESPN Plus.
