Trevor Hoskin scored two goals and added another in the shootout as the Merrimack College men’s hockey team finished in a 4-4 tie against the Vermont Catamounts on Saturday at Lawler Arena. Merrimack secured an extra point by winning the shootout 2-1.
Vermont opened the scoring early in the first period, but Merrimack responded with goals from Hoskin and Caelan Fitzpatrick. Caden Cranston assisted on both of those goals. In the second period, Nathan King extended Merrimack’s lead to 3-1 with a power play goal before Vermont tied it up by scoring twice.
Hoskin netted his tenth goal of the season midway through the third period, marking his second goal of the game and making him one of five Warriors players this season to reach double-digit goals—the most for Merrimack since seven players did so during the 2010-11 campaign. Vermont tied the game again with just over a minute left in regulation.
Neither team scored during overtime. In the subsequent shootout, Hoskin and Parker Lalonde converted their attempts for Merrimack, securing an extra point and allowing them to take five out of six possible points over the weekend.
