On Friday, Feb. 27, at 3 p.m., Maine Black Bears, featuring former Swampscott High School standout Pierce Friedman, were defeated 7-4 in their NCAA Division I baseball contest by the Winthrop Eagles.

Winthrop Ballpark hosted the teams for their first meeting this season.

Friedman pitched 2.2 innings, surrendering one earned run with one walk and one strikeout recorded.

The Black Bears are set to face the Winthrop Eagles again at Winthrop Ballpark on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 2 p.m.
