Merrimack College’s baseball team hit two home runs but fell short against Army West Point on March 10, losing 10-9 in the first of two games.
The game began with Greg Cristino hitting a home run over the left field wall after being given the green light on a 3-0 count. After Army tied the score in the third inning, Merrimack regained the lead in the fourth with an RBI from Samuel Sherman and a two-run single by Jack DePalma. Brett McKinnon added to Merrimack’s tally in the fifth inning with his first home run for the team.
Cristino continued his strong performance by driving in his third run of the day during the seventh inning. The Warriors extended their lead further in the eighth with an RBI single from Matt DeShiro and a sacrifice fly by Joey Frammartino that nearly resulted in another home run.
However, Army responded strongly in their half of the eighth inning, tying and then taking the lead with back-to-back home runs, including a grand slam that secured their 10-9 victory.
Merrimack will seek to split the series when they face Army West Point again tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.
