Merrimack College baseball lost both games of a doubleheader against Sacred Heart on April 17, with final scores of 3-2 and 6-1 in Fairfield, Connecticut.
The matchup was significant for Merrimack as they sought to improve their record but fell short in both contests. In the first game, Matt DeShiro led the Warriors with three hits, including a double in his second at-bat. Jack Andrews and Brett McKinnon each contributed two hits, with Andrews also reaching base via a walk. McKinnon provided the team’s only run batted in (RBI) during the eighth inning with a single. Chris Goode was among three players from Merrimack to hit doubles during the game. Relief pitchers James Nichols and Michael Bradshaw combined for four innings without allowing any runs or more than three hits.
In the second game of the day, McKinnon continued his performance by recording a hit and drawing two walks. DeShiro extended his hitting streak to eight consecutive games and has now reached base safely in 23 straight appearances. Jayden Hamilton added another hit for Merrimack, while Jack DePalma drove in their sole run on a fielder’s choice play during the seventh inning. Starting pitcher James Borsari threw five and one-third innings, allowing only four hits and one earned run.
The series between Merrimack College and Sacred Heart is scheduled to conclude tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
