Merrimack College’s baseball team will begin conference play this weekend with a three-game series against Niagara. The games are scheduled for Saturday at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m., and Sunday at 12 p.m. All games will take place at Cortland University because of poor weather in the New England area.
The Warriors’ offense is led by Jayden Hamilton, who is batting .387 through the first seven games, collecting 12 hits and seven RBIs. Matt DeShiro also has 12 hits so far, maintaining a .375 average and hitting his first home run during Merrimack’s win over Ball State.
Joey Frammartino leads the team in on-base percentage at .563, batting .364 with six walks and four times hit by pitch. Senior Greg Cristino had a strong recent performance, batting .500 last week with seven RBIs, hitting his first home run of the season, and not striking out.
On the mound, Colby Barker secured his second win after pitching 4.1 innings in relief during a decisive victory over Bucknell. He struck out six batters and allowed only two hits as Merrimack won 24-2.
Niagara began their season with eight losses but earned their first win last Sunday with a 3-1 result against Portland.
