Merrimack College baseball will continue its nine-game road trip with a matchup against the University of Rhode Island Rams on Wednesday, April 15 at 3 p.m.
The game is part of an extended stretch away from home for the Warriors. It provides both teams an opportunity to test their lineups and pitching rotations as the season progresses.
Colby Barker leads Merrimack’s pitching staff, holding a record of five wins and two losses with a 2.89 earned run average. Barker recently pitched five no-hit innings against Northeastern last Friday.
On offense, Greg Cristino has been a key contributor for the Warriors, hitting six home runs so far this season. His most recent home run came against Maine on Sunday. Cristino is batting .283 and leads Merrimack in hits, doubles, home runs, and runs batted in.
Outfielder Joey Frammartino has maintained strong performance into the second half of the season with a team-high .347 batting average, a 1.049 on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS), .531 slugging percentage (SLG%), and .518 on-base percentage (OBP). Shortstop Brooks Craigue also carries an over-.300 batting average at .319 and shares the team lead in total hits with Cristino at 36 each. Craigue aims to extend his current streak of reaching base safely to five games after accomplishing this feat every game last week.
Leadoff hitter Matt DeShiro enters Wednesday’s contest with a .283 batting average and four home runs. He leads Merrimack in plate appearances and has reached first base safely in 21 consecutive games.
