Merrimack defeated the Rhode Island Rams 5-2 on Apr. 15, using nine different pitchers throughout the game.
The Rams had entered the matchup having won eight of their last nine games, making Merrimack’s victory notable for halting Rhode Island’s recent momentum.
Joey Frammartino gave Merrimack an early lead with an RBI single in the first inning. In the second inning, designated hitter Jack Andrews hit his first home run of the season to extend the Warriors’ advantage. The fifth inning saw Matt DeShiro deliver an RBI double and Brooks Craigue add a sacrifice fly, further increasing Merrimack’s lead. DeShiro also extended his hitting streak to six games and has now reached base in 22 consecutive games.
Freshman Nick Koch contributed two hits and drove in a run during the sixth inning, marking his first collegiate RBI. Michael Bradshaw earned the win for Merrimack out of the bullpen. Zach Broderick struck out three batters while Owen Zadrozny fanned two more. Campbell Cassidy and James Nichols each pitched perfect innings during their appearances.
Looking ahead, Merrimack will return to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play this weekend with a three-game series against Sacred Heart. Two games are scheduled for Friday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., followed by one game on Saturday at 1 p.m.
