Merrimack baseball wins series against Niagara with 6-4 victory

Merrimack Baseball secured a 6-4 win over the Niagara Purple Eagles on Mar. 8, clinching the rubber match of their conference opening series.

The outcome marks an important start to Merrimack’s conference play, giving the team momentum as they continue their season.

Merrimack took an early lead with RBI singles from Jack Andrews and Chris Goode. Although Niagara responded by scoring three runs in the third inning to take the lead, Christian Scanlon brought Merrimack back ahead with a two-run single in the fifth. The Warriors added insurance runs in the sixth inning by drawing two bases loaded walks.

James Nichols started on the mound for Merrimack, pitching five innings and striking out four batters. Bobby Loper followed with three scoreless innings, allowing only two hits. Cole Yennaco closed out the game, earning his second save in as many days and securing the series win for Merrimack.

The Warriors will have a day off before traveling to West Point to face the Army Black Knights on Tuesday and Wednesday.
