Rachel Perry has resigned as head coach of the Merrimack College field hockey team after two seasons in charge. Athletic director Joe Foley announced that Perry is leaving to pursue other career opportunities but will remain in higher education.
Perry was promoted to head coach in May 2024 after serving as lead assistant for one season. In a statement, Foley said, “We are grateful for Rachel’s time and impact as the head coach of the Merrimack Field Hockey program and wish her nothing but the best as she begins her next chapter.”
Reflecting on her tenure, Perry stated, “I am incredibly grateful for my time at Merrimack College and for the opportunity to lead such an outstanding group of student-athletes. It has been a true privilege to work alongside student-athletes who represent the very best of dedication, resilience, and character both on and off the field. I want to sincerely thank the administration, my staff, and the entire Merrimack Community for their unwavering support. I will always cherish the relationships built here and take great pride in what we’ve accomplished together.”
Christina Hathaway will serve as interim coach while a national search for a new head coach begins immediately.
Under Perry’s leadership during the 2025 season, Merrimack achieved its highest number of wins since joining Division I. Over her two seasons as head coach, the team recorded a total of four wins in thirty games.
