The Merrimack College men’s basketball team secured a 70-48 win over Sacred Heart in the MAAC quarterfinals at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. The victory advances the Warriors to the next round of the tournament.
Kevair Kennedy, named MAAC Player of the Year, led Merrimack with 24 points, shooting 10-for-22 from the field. He also contributed eight rebounds and six assists. Ernest Shelton, another First Team All-MAAC selection, added 18 points and made four three-pointers. Shelton recorded a season-high nine rebounds, coming close to a double-double.
Tye Dorset provided additional support with 10 points and five assists. He also led Merrimack in steals with three and registered one block. Todd Brogna scored eight points, grabbed five rebounds, had two assists, and posted a team-best two blocks.
Merrimack forced Sacred Heart into 15 turnovers while only committing four themselves. This game marked the third time this season that Merrimack has held an opponent under 50 points.
The Warriors are set to play again at Boardwalk Hall on Sunday at 6 p.m., facing either Quinnipiac or Marist for a spot in the semifinals.
