Merrimack falls to Maine despite Gill’s extended scoring streak

The Merrimack men’s hockey team was defeated by the Maine Black Bears 5-3 on Friday night in Orono, Maine. Merrimack fell behind by two goals before captain Mark Hiller scored late in the first period to reduce the deficit.

Maine regained a two-goal advantage in the second period, but Warriors’ captain Caelan Fitzpatrick responded with a goal to bring Merrimack back within one. Early in the third period, Justin Gill scored for Merrimack, extending his goal streak to seven games and his point streak to 12 games. However, Maine quickly reclaimed the lead and later added an empty-net goal to secure the win.

Merrimack will seek a series split when they face Maine again on Saturday at 7 p.m.
