Merrimack falls to UNC-Wilmington 10-0 in baseball season opener

UNC-Wilmington defeated Merrimack 10-0 in the season opener held in Wilmington, North Carolina. Jayden Hamilton led Merrimack at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two singles, including an infield hit to shortstop.

Freshman catcher Garrett McGovern recorded Merrimack’s only extra-base hit of the game with a double in the seventh inning after working a full count. Chris Goode reached base twice for the Warriors, singling in his second at-bat and drawing a walk later.

Matt DeShiro and Christian Scanlon each contributed singles during their season debuts. On the mound, Chris Kiesiner and Zach Broderick both pitched one inning apiece and tallied two strikeouts each.

Merrimack will continue its early-season schedule this weekend at the Swig and Swine Classic in Charleston, South Carolina. The team is set to play Ball State on Friday at noon, Seton Hall on Saturday at noon, and Ball State again on Sunday morning.
