The Merrimack Warriors men’s ice hockey team defeated top-seeded Providence Friars 3-2 in overtime on March 14, advancing to the Hockey East semifinals. Trevor Hoskin scored the decisive goal less than three minutes into overtime at Schneider Arena.

This win secures Merrimack (19-15-2) a spot in the semifinals, where they will face No. 2 UMass-Amherst at TD Garden on Friday at 4 p.m. Eastern Time.

During the game, Nolan Flamand gave Merrimack a 2-1 lead early in the third period with the team’s second power-play goal. Nathan King contributed both a goal and an assist, tying the game late in the first period with another power-play score.

Goaltender Max Lundgren made 34 saves out of 36 shots, including several key stops during penalty kills in the opening period. Lundgren also set a new program record for single-season saves by reaching his 1,020th stop with just over seven minutes left in the second period. The Warriors outshot Providence 11-7 in the second period, but neither team scored during that frame.
