The Merrimack College men’s ice hockey team achieved a 9-5 win over Stonehill College at Warrior Ice Arena in Boston on Tuesday night. The Warriors scored four goals in the first period, marking the second time this season they have reached that number in a single period.

Trevor Hoskin opened the scoring just 73 seconds into the game, assisted by Nick Pierre and Justin Gill. Ryan O’Connell added another goal eight minutes later to put Merrimack ahead 2-0. Stonehill responded with a powerplay goal, but Joey Henneberry tipped in an O’Connell shot to restore Merrimack’s two-goal lead. Cam Kungle closed out the first period with his first goal of the season, assisted by Michael Emerson, giving Merrimack a 4-1 advantage at intermission.

In the second period, Stonehill narrowed the gap after the media break. However, Hoskin netted his second goal on a powerplay and Caelan Fitzpatrick scored shorthanded to extend Merrimack’s lead to 6-2.

Stonehill scored early in the third period before Daniel Astapovich responded for Merrimack less than a minute later. Nick Pierre followed up with a powerplay goal and Justin Gill added another tally for their eleventh goals of the season. Stonehill managed two more late goals but could not close the deficit.

The last time Merrimack scored nine goals in one game was November 23, 2001, against Colgate at the Syracuse Invitational.

The Warriors will have a weekend off before returning to Hockey East play against Boston College Eagles at Lawler Arena on Friday, February 13th. The game is scheduled for a 7 PM start and will be available on ESPN+.
