Merrimack men’s tennis loses to Mount St. Mary’s after early doubles success

The Merrimack men’s tennis team secured the doubles point but fell to Mount St. Mary’s with a 4-1 loss on Sunday at the Willows Racquet & Fitness Center in North Andover, Massachusetts.

Mike Schut and Ludolph Wiggett claimed a 6-3 victory at No. 1 doubles, while Tom Van Nooten and Strahinja Djukic also posted a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles. Juan Carlos Portilla and Trey Pleasant were leading 5-3 when Merrimack clinched the doubles point.

In singles play, Djukic was ahead with scores of 6-4, 2-6, 2-0, and Portilla was up 5-0 when Mount St. Mary’s secured the overall match win.

Merrimack will begin a three-match road stretch starting Sunday against Niagara at 3 p.m.
