Merrimack men’s track and field competes at SNHU Ed Daniels Classic

The Merrimack College men’s track and field team competed in the Ed Daniels Classic hosted by Southern New Hampshire University on April 11.

The event marked another opportunity for Merrimack athletes to continue their outdoor season, with several strong performances across various events.

Aidan Dupill and Ben Rich secured first and second place finishes in the 1500 meter race, recording times of 4:02.57 and 4:03.84 respectively. Rich also achieved a top five finish with a time of 4:05.47 in another heat. In the hurdles, Elizardo Melenciano finished fourth in the 110 meter event with a time of 14.95 seconds, while Jackson Bomba placed eighth at exactly 16 seconds.

In sprinting events, Gab Qureshi came fourth in the 400 meter run with a time of 49.02 seconds, followed by John Azpiri-Sudusky who finished eighth at 49.77 seconds. Manny Mahoney took sixth place in the competitive 100 meter dash with a time of 10.80 seconds.

Distance runner Michael Alleva finished fifth in the challenging 5000 meter race clocking in at 15:35.33, while DJ Walsh was seventh in the steeplechase after finishing his race at 10:31.23.

In field events, Grant Eastin placed fourth among elite competitors in shot put with a throw measuring out to be over fourteen meters (14.71m). Owen LaRoss won the unseeded shot put event with a mark of nearly thirteen meters (12.95m) and also claimed sixth place honors for discus throw (45.50m). Jared Ptaszek and Jude Ibarra were both top eight finishers for hammer throw registering marks over fifty-two meters (52.08m) and forty-nine meters (49.64m) respectively.

Keith Townsend performed well across multiple disciplines; he was fourth overall for the men’s four-hundred-meter hurdles posting a sub-fifty-five-second effort (54.96s), then went on to finish seventh during high jump clearing a height of one-point-eight-three meters (1.83m).

Other notable results included Jimmy Gogbeh’s eighth-place long jump performance (6.32m) as well as Brady Trask’s eighth-place result for javelin throw reaching nearly forty-eight meters (47.97m).
