Merrimack men’s track and field finishes day one of MAAC championships in third place

The Merrimack Men’s Track and Field team finished the first day of the MAAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in third place with 21 points, according to a May 9 announcement.

The team saw several athletes qualify for final events on the second day. Grant Eastin won the hammer throw event with a distance of 57.95 meters. Jude Ibarra contributed five points in the same event with a mark of 52.83 meters, while Ibarra and Will Bierden also placed seventh and eighth with throws of 51.00 and 49.61 meters respectively.

Aidan Dupill secured sixth place in the 10,000 meter final, finishing with a time of 32:16.70.

Elizardo Melenciano advanced to the finals by winning his heat in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.66 seconds. Gab Qureshi qualified for tomorrow’s final in the 400 meter event after clocking a time of 48.60 seconds.

Keith Townsend earned his spot in the finals for the 400 meter hurdles by recording a time of 54.49 seconds, while Thomas Scalia qualified for both the finals in the men’s 100 meter (10.96 seconds) and men’s 200 meter (21.93 seconds) races.
