Merrimack College Softball played a doubleheader against Iona on March 28, continuing their conference schedule.
The games were important for Merrimack as they look to improve their standing in the conference. In the first game, Madeline Arvai started the scoring with an RBI single, while Abby Choquette brought home Jamie Calkins on a groundout. Sam Russalesi added another run with an RBI single in the fourth inning. However, Iona tied the game at three runs each in the fifth and went on to score six runs in the eighth inning to secure victory.
Russalesi and Choquette both recorded two hits each during game one. Alex Miller, Sam Ryan, Madeline Arvai, Jamie Calkins, and Caity Lemay also contributed hits for Merrimack.
In game two of the doubleheader, Megan Miller hit a two-run home run—her third of the season—to highlight Merrimack’s offense. Caity Lemay scored another run on a sacrifice fly. Arvai led with two hits while Alex Miller, Anna Mitrou, Sam Ryan, and Jamie Calkins also had hits.
The Warriors will conclude their series against Iona and play their last home game until April 18 tomorrow at noon.
