Merrimack College’s softball team opened their MAAC conference schedule with a doubleheader against Mount St. Mary’s, held in Shippensburg due to weather-related changes.
In the first game, Merrimack took an early lead after Caity Lemay hit a double that brought in Madeline Arvai and Jamie Caulkins. The Warriors finished with seven hits, including a perfect 3-for-3 performance from Alex Miller. Abby Choquette also doubled and Arvai added a single. Pitcher Anna Gedacht completed all six innings, recording three strikeouts and allowing just one run.
The second game was decided by a home run from Mount St. Mary’s, which accounted for the only runs of the contest. Merrimack pitcher MacKenzie Paulin delivered a quality start, pitching all six innings with two hits allowed and three strikeouts. The Warriors managed two hits in this game, courtesy of Arvai and Choquette.
Merrimack will next play at home in a doubleheader against the University of Maine Black Bears on Wednesday, March 11 at noon and 2 p.m.
