Merrimack College’s softball team began their participation in the Towson Tournament with a split, scoring ten runs in their opening game victory against Morgan State on Saturday afternoon.

The Warriors tied the score in the fourth inning after Caity Lemay hit an RBI single, bringing Madeline Arvai home. Anna Mitrou then put Merrimack ahead in the fifth with a solo home run. The offense continued in the sixth inning as Emma Prahin and Mitrou each contributed RBI doubles. Arvai added a two-RBI single, and Lemay completed the scoring with a grand slam, marking her fifth RBI of the game.

Pitcher Anna Gedacht earned the win, pitching six innings, allowing one run and striking out five batters.

This marks the first time since April 6 against Stonehill that Merrimack’s softball team has scored more than ten runs in a game.

In the second game of the day, Anna Mitrou and Alex Miller scored on an error and ground out respectively. Abby Choquette and Sam Ryan each recorded a double, but Merrimack was unable to overcome Towson’s early lead and lost 4-2.

The Warriors will finish their tournament play tomorrow with games scheduled at 10 AM and 12:30 PM against Cornell University.
