The Merrimack Warriors baseball team is set to travel to Charleston, South Carolina, for a three-game weekend series as part of the Swig and Swine Classic. The Warriors will play two games against Ball State and one against Seton Hall.
On Wednesday, Jayden Hamilton was a key contributor for the Warriors, going 2-for-3 at the plate. According to the team, “He beat out a ground ball to short and stripped a single to left center.”
Freshman Garrett McGovern made an impact in his first collegiate game by hitting a double, which was the team’s only extra-base hit of the game.
Christian Scanlon, who led the team in on-base percentage last season, recorded a hit during the home opener. Senior Chris Goode also started his season with both a single and a walk, making him one of just two players to reach base twice in that game.
Lead-off hitter Matt DeShiro reached base once with a single. On the mound, both Chris Kiesiner and Zach Broderick tallied two strikeouts each in their season debuts.
The schedule for this weekend’s games begins Friday against Ball State at noon. The Warriors will face Seton Hall on Saturday at noon before concluding the series Sunday morning with another matchup against Ball State at 10 am.
