The Merrimack Warriors women’s basketball team is preparing for its final regular season road game, following a strong series of performances that have secured their place in the upcoming conference tournament in Atlantic City this March. The team recently achieved a decisive win over Rider and has claimed victory in 13 of its last 16 games, limiting opponents to fewer than 60 points on nine occasions.
Last Thursday, Madison Roman played a key role as the Warriors completed a season sweep against Sacred Heart. Over the weekend, Merrimack defeated Siena by 19 points with four players scoring in double figures; Lydia Melaschenko led with 22 points. In another recent matchup, the Warriors forced overtime with a buzzer-beater and eventually won against Marist, marking their fourth season sweep.
Senior Lydia Melaschenko set a new single-season program record for three-pointers made (77) after connecting from long range during the third quarter against Rider. She currently leads the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) in three-pointers per game and ranks third nationally with an average of 3.24 per game. Over her last six games, she has made 30 three-pointers—an average of five per contest—and previously hit eight threes in consecutive games.
Madison Roman remains at the top of the MAAC for rebounds and contributed nine boards along with six steals in the comeback win over Sacred Heart. She added a double-double versus Siena and scored 23 points during an overtime victory against Marist.
Se’Lah Reddick has shown improvement recently, averaging 13 points and nearly five rebounds across her past three games. Reddick posted career-high scoring marks in back-to-back contests: first tallying 18 points on efficient shooting against Marist, then surpassing that performance by scoring 14 points in her next outing.
Defensively, Merrimack continues to excel by holding opponents under 60 points in most recent games. Madison Roman leads all players in defensive rebounds within the conference while Paloma Garcia ranks third for steals at Merrimack with a total of 561 career takeaways. As a team, they are second overall for blocked shots this season, including significant contributions from graduate student Oralye Kiefer who has recorded 59 blocks.
The Warriors look to maintain their momentum as they head into their final road matchup before postseason play begins.
