Merrimack College women’s rowing team began its spring season on April 11 at the Knecht Cup in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, participating in three events.
The competition marked the start of the team’s schedule for the season. The event included races across several categories, giving athletes an opportunity to compete against regional opponents and assess their performance early in the spring.
In the Novice 4+ event, Merrimack finished third place in Group A with a time of 9:23.470. Team members included Gabriella Ortiz, Julissbeth Chantal Grullon Gomez, Grace Lavoie, Sophia Ferrara, and Maryanne Pease.
The Second Varsity 8+ boat placed fifth in Group A with a time of 8:52.800. Rowers were Abaigeal Fuls, Anna Frost, Samantha Simon, Hannah Perry, Mollie Quirk, Leah Mercado, Morgan Studin, Liz Fitzsimmons and Inssaf Machouk.
In Varsity 8+, Merrimack took sixth place in Group C with a time of 7:28.750. Crew members were Abby Pernilla-Roche, Jordyn Trowt, Dempsey Lajoie, Hailey Young, Tara Stoeffler, Emma Dolan, Skye Tucker, Grace Stein and Samantha Model.
The Warriors will continue their season next Saturday when they compete against Amherst College.
