The Merrimack women’s basketball team has been invited to the Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) as an at-large selection, according to a March 15 announcement. This marks the first time the program will participate in the Division I WNIT.
The Warriors, led by head coach Kelly Morrone, are set to host New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) at Lawler Arena. The schedule for the opening round matchup has not yet been officially announced.
Merrimack finished its season with a record of 19-12 overall and 15-5 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play, securing third place during the regular season. The team advanced to the semifinals of the conference tournament before falling to Fairfield, which is nationally ranked and went on to win the MAAC Tournament and secure a spot in the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Tournament.
This invitation extends Merrimack’s season and provides an opportunity for further postseason competition at home. The WNIT appearance is seen as a milestone for the program as it continues its growth at the Division I level.
Further details regarding game times and ticket information are expected to be released soon.
