The Merrimack Women’s Hockey Team marked their senior day with a 3-2 victory over Providence College at Lawler Arena on Saturday night. The game was played in snowy conditions.
Late in the first period, Merrimack gained a two-player advantage and Olivia Grabianowski scored off a rebound, giving the Warriors a lead going into the first intermission. Providence tied the game with the only goal of the second period.
Early in the third period, Madison Vittands capitalized on a turnover and scored her first collegiate goal just nine seconds after play resumed. Grabianowski assisted, earning her second point of the night.
Goaltender Adreanna Doucette recorded 22 saves in the third period and made 39 saves overall. As Providence pulled their goalie for an extra attacker late in the game, Neely Hawn forced a loose puck which Emma Pfeffer chased down before passing to Stina Sandberg for an empty net goal that secured the win.
After the final whistle, Merrimack honored five seniors and graduate players: Kathryn Karo (#9), Olivia Grabianowski (#13), Madison Michals (#16), Avery Anderson (#92), and Maddie Crowley-Cahill (#18). Crowley-Cahill reached a milestone by playing her 150th career game during this match.
