Missy Traversi was introduced as the new head coach of the Merrimack College women’s basketball team on April 10 in North Andover, Massachusetts. The announcement came two days after her appointment, following the departure of former coach Kelly Morrone.
Traversi told an audience of student-athletes, athletic administration, and media that she aims to instill an “uncommon” mindset in the program. “We will be uncommon in our preparation,” Traversi said. “Uncommon in our effort and energy. Uncommon in our positivity. Uncommon in our pursuit of excellence. Uncommon in the believe in ourselves and one another. We will be a team of uncommon women for an uncommon mission.”
She emphasized that core values such as elite preparation, effort, and execution would define Merrimack’s approach moving forward. “When it comes to building a winning program, it starts with people and culture. That will always be our foundation,” Traversi said.
Before joining Merrimack, Traversi served four years as head coach at Army where she achieved a 65-54 record and led the team to a 25-win season during 2024-25—the second-most wins in Army program history. She also previously coached Adelphi University’s Division II Panthers to multiple successful seasons marked by strong offense and defense.
The Warriors recently finished with the third-best regular season record in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and reached the conference tournament semifinals for two consecutive years under Morrone’s leadership—a legacy Traversi intends to continue.
“What drew me to Merrimack is simple: This is a school on the rise,” said Traversi while reflecting on her previous experience facing Merrimack when coaching at Adelphi. “Everywhere you turn, there’s energy, growth and excitement. Something special is happening here, and I am thrilled to be a part of it.”
