Sophomore Nick Hunkele led the Merrimack Warriors to an 8-0 victory over Marist on April 24, pitching eight scoreless innings and setting career highs in both innings pitched and strikeouts. Hunkele allowed only one hit during his outing, helping secure a strong start for the Warriors in game one of their series.
The significance of this performance is highlighted by the dominant pitching and timely hitting that gave Merrimack control throughout the game. With playoff implications often riding on late-season conference matchups, such wins can prove crucial for team momentum.
Joey Frammartino broke open a scoreless contest in the sixth inning with a three-run home run to center field. The following inning, Greg Cristino added another three-run homer, extending Merrimack’s lead to seven runs. Chris Goode contributed further with a solo home run in the eighth inning.
Other notable performances included Jayden Hamilton, who recorded two doubles and drew a walk, while Jack DePalma notched both a single and double along with reaching base via walk. Matt DeShiro continued his consistent play by extending his hitting streak to twelve games and his on-base streak to twenty-eight games.
The series between the Warriors and Red Foxes continues tomorrow at 1 p.m., with another matchup scheduled for Sunday at noon.
