Nick Hunkele pitched eight shutout innings on May 1, helping the Merrimack Warriors men’s baseball team secure a 4-2 victory in extra innings. The performance marked his second consecutive game with eight scoreless frames.

Hunkele, who was recently named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference pitcher of the week, struck out eight batters and narrowly missed a complete game shutout. Cole Yennaco earned his first win of the season by pitching the final 1.2 innings and striking out two opponents.

Greg Cristino played a key role in extra innings, hitting a double over the center fielder’s head to clear the bases. Cristino collected two hits for the fifth time in seven games.

Jayden Hamilton contributed early with a two-run single to center field in the first inning. Matt DeShiro reached base five times during the game, including being hit by pitches twice and recording two singles and a double. Brooks Craigue added two hits and scored during the tenth inning.

Joey Frammartino and Garrett McGovern each had one hit and drew two walks apiece for Merrimack. The Warriors will attempt to win their series in their next matchup scheduled for tomorrow at 1 p.m.
