The Endicott women's volleyball team swept Middlebury on Saturday afternoon 3-0 in a dominant performance on Homecoming Weekend. The Gulls improve to 9-3 overall while Middlebury falls to 6-6.
Endicott posted a season-high .388 average on Saturday, including .548 (19-2-31) in the first, and .433 (17-4-30) in the second. The Gulls finished with a 44-11-85 line overall, the second-highest output in a three-set sweep on the season, only bested by Endicott's 49-kill outburst against Roger Williams on Thursday.
Leading the charge offensively was Kelsey Sanborn (Londonderry, N.H.), Amanda Gilbert (West Falmouth, Mass.) and Colleen McAvoy (Coventry, Conn.), who combined for 31 of the team's 44 kills. Sanborn set a new career-high with her 12 kills and .526 average (12-2-19), while Gilbert finished 10-2-26 (.308) to go with 11 digs, for her fifth double-double of the season. McAvoy finished the match hitting .500 (9-2-14), good for the second-best mark in the match, to go with two blocks.
Endicott's setters, Lauren McGrath (Franklin, Mass.) and Ella Koelb (Auburn, N.H.) finished with 22 and 20 assists, respectively, as Koelb also chipped in six digs and two aces. Defensively, Emma Ruel (Duxbury, Mass.) matched Gilbert's match-high of 11 digs, while Alexandra Tecun (Hawthorne, Calif.) finished with eight.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Endicott is now 3-4 all-time against Middlebury, having won two of the last three.
- The Gulls are now 5-0 at home, having gone 15-1 in sets played in the friendly confines of the MacDonald Gymnasium.
- Krystina Schueler (Trumbull, Conn.) hit .375 after posting a 5-2-8 line.
- Freshman middle Stephanie Moreau (Methuen, Mass.) tied for the match-high with three blocks in the match.
