Sterrett Stymies Wesleyan In Overtime, 3-2

Jackson Sterrett (Henderson, Tenn.) buried a breakaway goal with 2:19 remaining in overtime to push the No. 7 nationally ranked Endicott men's ice hockey team past Wesleyan, 3-2, on Wednesday night at Spurrier-Snyder Rink.Sterrett scored his first career game-winner with a backhand-to-forehand finish after going the length of the ice thanks to an offensive turnover by the Cardinals.

Cam Speck (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) set up the bench-clearing tally when he deflected a pass with his right skate into the slot for the speedy Sterrett to pounce on and take coast-to-coast.

Matt Giroux (Bedford, N.H.), A.J. Martinelli (Grosse Point Farms, Mich.), and Mitch Shaheen (North Andover, Mass.) also played a pivotal role in the overtime victory for the Gulls.

The penalty kill unit fended off a Wesleyan 4-on-3 power play opportunity for nearly a minute to start the extra session by clogging shooting lanes, blocking shots, and diving down to the ice to shield sophomore goaltender Atticus Kelly (St. Paul, Minn.) from high-quality scoring chances.

Kelly finished the game with 22 saves, including three in overtime (two on the PK).

Endicott trailed 1-0 and 2-1 in the matchup, but Connor Beatty (Concord, N.H.) found the equalizer each time with tallies in the second (12:54, PP) and third (16:59) periods, respectively, setting the stage for Sterrett's heroics.
