Van Nooten wins singles as Merrimack men’s tennis opens spring season

The Merrimack College Men’s Tennis team began their spring season with a match against Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. The team was defeated 6-1, but Tom Van Nooten secured a win in his singles match after forcing a tie breaker and winning 10-6.

Head coach Cory Erikson commented on the team’s performance: “It was a great start to the season against a very strong opponent. I was very happy with effort and level from the guys. A huge congrats to Tom Van Nooten for winning his first match as a warrior at the number 2 spot.”

Other matches included Björn Hedegaard-Friis competing in two close singles sets, while Mike Schut and Strahinja Djukic lost their doubles match with a score of 4-6.

The team is scheduled to play their next match at Dartmouth against the Big Green at the end of the month, with competition beginning at 10 a.m.
