The ratio of students to teachers in Gloucester Public Schools District rose by 4.9% in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

There were 2,833 students being taught by 261.5 teachers in Gloucester Public Schools District, which covers schools within Essex County and has a main office in Gloucester. That's an average of 10.8 students per teacher in the district during the 2021-22 school year.

In the previous year, Gloucester Public Schools District had 2,766 students and 267.4 teachers on staff.

Despite the shortage, under-representation of ethnicities among teachers was found to be a concern. The Rennie Center reported that only nine percent of teachers are people of color.

Massachusetts was ranked as the eighth best state for teachers, according to a WalletHub study.
