The ratio of students to teachers in Rockport Public Schools District fell by 2.4% in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

There were 748 students being taught by 90 teachers in Rockport Public Schools District, which covers schools within Essex County and has a main office in Rockport. That's an average of 8.3 students per teacher in the district during the 2021-22 school year.

In the previous year, Rockport Public Schools District had 762 students and 89.2 teachers on staff.

Despite the shortage, under-representation of ethnicities among teachers was found to be a concern. The Rennie Center reported that only nine percent of teachers are people of color.

However, the state is facing a teacher shortage, just like the rest of the U.S. NewsNation reported that the state was offering emergency teaching licenses to educators who only had bachelor’s degrees, in an effort to get more teachers into schools.
