The ratio of students to teachers in Topsfield Public Schools District rose by 4.8% in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

There were 622 students being taught by 56.3 teachers in Topsfield Public Schools District, which covers schools within Essex County and has a main office in Boxford. That's an average of 11 students per teacher in the district during the 2021-22 school year.

In the previous year, Topsfield Public Schools District had 586 students and 55.7 teachers on staff.

Despite the shortage, under-representation of ethnicities among teachers was found to be a concern. The Rennie Center reported that only nine percent of teachers are people of color.

However, the state is facing a teacher shortage, just like the rest of the U.S. NewsNation reported that the state was offering emergency teaching licenses to educators who only had bachelor’s degrees, in an effort to get more teachers into schools.
