The ratio of students to teachers in Lawrence Public Schools District remained unchanged in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

There were 12,786 students being taught by 1,123.8 teachers in Lawrence Public Schools District, which covers schools within Essex County and has a main office in Lawrence. That's an average of 11.4 students per teacher in the district during the 2021-22 school year.

In the previous year, Lawrence Public Schools District had 12,842 students and 1,123.3 teachers on staff.

Massachusetts was ranked as the eighth best state for teachers, according to a WalletHub study.

Despite the shortage, under-representation of ethnicities among teachers was found to be a concern. The Rennie Center reported that only nine percent of teachers are people of color.
